Without taking a party line, we suffer from a lack of cohesive leadership, both at the corporate and government levels. In a free society and market economy, forces are going to constantly change the make-up of the economic machine. We went from an agricultural economy to a manufacturing economy, and are now moving towards a technology based economy. It's the management of change that takes leadership at all levels. Without proper leadership, agendas get confused and personal greed gets in the way of morale decision making. Strong leadership with a clear vision of where we are heading, with solid achievable goals, sets a pathway for the future. Change is inevitable, but must be managed. Moving away from a manufacturing based economy doesn't have to be a bad thing, we just need to all be on the same mission for where we are headed next.

I'm trying to follow along with the discussion, but am having some geographical difficulties. Is there another Tawas in the U-P, or are we talking about the Tawas on Lake Huron. Is Yooperpete talking about a Tawas in the U-P, or the one under the bridge.

Early on in this dicussion, I commented on the need for leadership and vision in this country to establish, and constantly re-establish, priorities for economic and social growth. Since change is inevitable, it needs to be managed as an opportunity, not a threat. America's strength is in it's potential for leadership, not from elected officials or boardroom CEO's, but from all of us. If we can break the paradigms of blame, understand that we all in some way contribute to the need for change, we will begin to accept personel responsibilty to participate in managing it. Leadership does start at the top, but the best managed companies are the one's that manage themselves through participative invlovement. That means accepting that you have the ability to control and decide, and learn from the consequenses.
